Dog playing outside in the snow during winter weather

Snow Day? Here’s How I Entertain My Dog Indoors

What do you do when your dog is bouncing off the walls but it’s too cold for a long walk? That’s the situation I face every winter. Snowy days can leave my pup restless and me scrambling for ways to keep him occupied indoors. Luckily, a few simple enrichment ideas have turned those stressful days into fun ones.

Why Enrichment Matters Indoors

Even without a long outdoor walk, dogs still need a mix of mental and physical stimulation. A bored dog usually means chewed furniture, barking during your calls, or pacing around the house. Indoor enrichment fills that gap and tires them out in a healthy way.

My Go-To Snow Day Activities

  • Treat-Dispensing Toys: I stuff the Happy Pet Lollypup with kibble or frozen snacks. It keeps my dog rolling, licking, and problem-solving for a solid 20–30 minutes.
  • Frozen Tray Cubes: Using the treat mold I make little yogurt + fruit cubes the night before. They’re quick to serve and perfect for a snow day boredom buster.
  • DIY Hide-and-Seek: I hide a few treats under cups or around the living room and let my dog sniff them out. It’s simple but taps into his natural instincts.
  • Short Training Sessions: Practicing sit, stay, or fun tricks in short bursts is mentally tiring and keeps us connected.
  • Play Rotations: I rotate toys throughout the day so each one feels “new.” It’s amazing how excited my dog gets to see a toy he hasn’t played with in a while.

How It Helps Me

On days when I’m working from home, these enrichment ideas are lifesavers. Instead of constant pawing at me for attention, my dog is happily engaged — and by the end of the day, he’s ready to curl up on the couch. Snowy days feel less stressful and a lot more fun when I’ve got a plan for indoor play.

Wrap-Up

If snowy days make you feel trapped indoors with a restless pup, try adding some enrichment into the mix. A little creativity (and the right toys) go a long way.

Want to make it even easier? Our Lollypup Collection is designed to keep dogs busy indoors — so you can actually enjoy the snow day, too.
